CATLETTSBURG - Allen J. Conley, 81, of Barbeque Road, Catlettsburg, passed away on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2013, in the presence of his family at Community Hospice Care Center.
Mr. Conley was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Catlettsburg, a son of the late Williard Mason and Lena O'Brien Conley. Allen attended Thomas R. Brown High School and served his country in the Kentucky National Guard. He retired from AK Steel-Solvay in 2000, was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church and an avid UK basketball fan.
Survivors include son, Steve Conley and his wife Julie, of Kitts Hill, Ohio; daughters Bobette Wilson and Gretchen McDowell, both of Catlettsburg; grandchildren Stephannie Buckland, Courtney "Nikki" McDowell and Ben Curry; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Jean Cordial Conley in 2010; son, Allen "Buddy" Conley Jr.; grandson Steven "Peeber" Conley; brothers Paul Conley and Wayne Conley; and sisters Evelyn Hughes, Neva Yates and Mary Mays.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Conley's life will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at the Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Pastor Mike Blankenship will officiate. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
