Bill Gene Barber - 1928-2010
Bill Gene Barber, 81, of Ashland, Ky., died Feb. 9, 2010, in Boyd County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Ashland, a son of the late Samuel Dempsey Barber Sr. and Mae Elkins Barber.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Chloe Bartram Barber, in 2007; a brother, Charles Barber; and a sister, Bertha Chapman.
He was retired from B.F. Goodrich in Marion, Ohio, was of the Baptist faith, was a member of American Legion Post 76 and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War who served with the military police.
Surviving are a brother, Samuel Dempsey Barber Jr. of Ashland; a sister, Allene Neal of Ashland; and many nieces.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Ed Caudill. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland, with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
Friends may call after noon Friday at the funeral home.
