CATLETTSBURG - Charles Everett Gillum, 91, of Catlettsburg, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Gillum was born July 29, 1921, in Boyd County, a son of the late William and Almedia Johnson Gillum.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Louise Allen Gillum.
Everett served his country honorably during World War II in the U.S. Army. He worked at the AK Steel Coke Plant as a coal handler for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He was a Shriner, a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Hampton Lodge. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his children, Charles Gillum (Connie) of Wakeman, Ohio, Patricia Hopkins of Ashland and Paul Gillum and Rhonda Gillum (Alan), both of Catlettsburg; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg by Pastor Charles Allen. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens, with military rites by American Post Post 93 of Kenova.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service by Hampton Lodge at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
