CATLETTSBURG - Charles Edward Turner, 82, of Catlettsburg, went home to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 12:34 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland.
He was born Oct. 25, 1930, to Carson and Sylvia Turner in Forman, Ark. He married his loving and devoted wife, Janet Gail LeMaster Turner, on Feb 1, 1974, and she survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd; and a grandson, Carl Jason Wells.
Also surviving are his sister, Arlene Turner of Grannis, Ark.; brothers Doyle (Dexter) Turner of Wickes, Ark., and Doyne (Aleta) Turner of Grannis; daughters Kathy Turner of Hatfield, Ark., Suzanne (Stephen) Smallwood of Hatfield, Sherri (Jay) McGranahan of Catlettsburg and Lisa Turner of Cove, Ark.; a goddaughter, Larae Travis of Ashland; and sons Charles (Kim) Turner and Lonnie Meadows of South Point, Ohio. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; two godgrandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired machinist at Armco Steel Corp. He loved to hunt and fish, but his life was devoted to being a fisher of men, in service to God. He taught Sunday school for 50 years, was a faithful Sunday school superintendent and deacon and was awarded the Second-Mile Award from the Nazarene Church. His heart's desire was for no one to be lost without Jesus Christ. He was a member of Catlettsburg First Church of the Nazarene.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, with the family gathering from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Frank Hulett and Donny McKenzie will officiate. Interment will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 8, 2013, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg.
Casket bearers will be Lonnie Meadows, Clint Meadows, Blake Meadows, Jay McGranahan, Roger LeMaster and Chet Branham.
