Charles D. Williams Sr. (1942-2009)
Charles Douglas Williams Sr., 66, of Ashland, went to be with his Lord, Sunday, March 1, 2009, following a brief illness.
Charles was born July 6, 1942 in Ashland, a son of the late James Ervin and Elise Elizabeth Burchett Williams.
He was a member of the Ashland Lions Club, Ambassadors 4 Christ, the model T Ford Club of America and the Ohio Valley Association of Christian Baptist Church of God. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an airman 2nd class and retired from Armco Steel after 25 years of service. He was a past president of the Ashland National Little League. Charles was the previous owner of Williams Excavating, Consolidated Rental Service, Old Orchard Sundry, Yellow Cab of Ashland, Action Delivery Moving & Storage and the Ugly Duckling Car Rental. He was the founder and a board member of MTS Ambulance and Classy Limousine. He was interim pastor and deacon of Russell Christian Baptist Church, and served as pastor of Winchester Christian Baptist Church in Winchester, Ky. He was the active pastor at Rt. 5 Christian Baptist Church and assistant treasurer and the Kentucky District Superintendent of Ohio Valley Association of Christian Baptist Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Coburn; one brother, Billy Joe Williams and one grandson, Jared Stacy Williams.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Barbra Sue Patrick Williams of Ashland; a son, Charles D. "Chuck" Williams Jr. and his wife, Kim of Ashland; a daughter, Teresa Cornette and her husband, Gary Matthew of Ashland; a brother, Jack Allen Williams of Columbus, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Shellie (Matt) Louanglath, Corey Shane Williams, Adam Cornette, Ryan Cornette and Nicholas Williams.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Pastor Paul Hagen, Pastor Delmar Rogers and Pastor Calvin Ray Evans at Rt. 5 Christian Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Military services will be conducted by Kenova American Legion Post #93.
Pallbearers will be Matt Louanglath, Shane Williams, Gary Matthew Cornette, Matt Jobe, Brian Baer, Jonathan Rogers, Jason Plummer and Ed Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Cornette, Ryan Cornette and Nicholas Williams.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood.
