Clyde Smith - 1917-2008
Clyde Smith, 91, a resident of Horse Branch in Catlettsburg for over 60 years, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Morgan County, a son of the late Jack and Rena McGuire Smith. He was a retired maintenance of way welder with C & O Railroad. He loved playing the guitar and banjo, and was a faithful member of Catlettsburg Pentecostal Tabernacle.
Sadly left behind is a loving family including, his wife, Essie Hamm Gue Smith; six sons, Sam (Faye) Smith of Catlettsburg, Scott (Denise) Smith of Ashland, Clyde (Sharon) Smith Jr. of Catlettsburg, Wayne (Linda) Smith of Ashland and Carl (Sharon) Smith and Tim (Kim) Smith, all of Catlettsburg ; four daughters, Sue (Bill) Gallaher of Aragon, Ga., Neva (Tom) McKenzie, Kay (the late Ed) DeBoard, all of Catlettsburg and Jody Marsh of Ashland; four stepchildren, Patty Bryant, Bill Gue, Rick Gue and Sharon Smith.
Papaw Smith has 38 grandchildren; and well over 60 great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in 1994 was his first wife, Cora Belle Cox Smith; a brother, Claude Smith; and two sisters, Easter Gullett and Laura Conley.
A funeral service in remembrance of Mr. Smith will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept.29, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort will be offered by Pastor J. R. Ferguson. Final rest to follow at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
