Donald Millard Nelson, 66, of Ashland, went home to be with his Lord on July 9, 2010, in the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born March 11, 1944, in Dunlow, W.Va., the son of the late Noah C. and Maltie Pack Nelson.
He was a retired educator for 34 years, a dedicated Christian, a member and deacon of Martha United Baptist Church and an Army Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Martha Mayo Nelson; three daughters, Melody Nelson of Ashland, Heather Harris (David) of Wetumpka, Ala., and Tiffany Francis (Rick) of Ashland; grandchildren, Jordan Chapman, Tamela Chapman, Zachary Francis, Makena Francis, Emily Harris and Lauren Harris; three brothers, Bobby Nelson (Patty), Estel Nelson (Mary), and David Nelson (Diana), all of Wayne County, W.Va.; two sisters, Aileen Bailey of Clearwater, Fla., and Hester Bailey (Larry) of Wayne County; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at Westwood United Baptist Church with Elder Andrew Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland with military graveside services by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home in Ashla
