Ethel J. Hale (1915-2009)
Ethel J. Hale, whose soul descended into Heaven on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, passed away at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland after a short illness. She was born June 19, 1915, in Catlettsburg, the daughter of the late Charlie and Mattie Lewis Johnson, the second of seven children. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her biggest pleasure in life was spoiling her grandsons and their sons. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she loved to sing in the choir and lead singing in her Sunday school class. She was also known for her cooking and her delicious cakes and pies.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, George, in October 1996; brothers, Estill, Clarence, Earl, Paul Timothy; and a baby.
Survivors include a daughter, Cappie Thompson and her husband Don of Flatwoods; two grandsons who were the love of her life, Matthew Jason (Melissa) and Brandon Keith (Kelly), both of Flatwoods. God blessed her with three wonderful great-grandsons who she loved dearly, Caden Keith and Cooper Brian (Brandon's) and Andrew Kai (Matthew's). Also surviving is her only sister, Ruth Kouns of Westwood; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends especially a cherished friend of 58 years, Pauline Williams of Greenup.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home by Pastor Mark McKinney and soloist Reba Manning and Kim Blankenship. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be son-in-law, Don; grandsons, Matthew and Brandon; Brent Fuggitt, John McKinney and Bill Thompson. Ethel will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her.
She lived a devoted Christian life and she is now reaping the benefits wrapped in the arms of God.
