Garner Franklin "Pete" Moyer, 79, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, in River's Bend Health Care in South Point, Ohio, with his loving wife at his side.
Mr. Moyer was born Aug. 10, 1933, in North Kenova, Ohio, a son of the late Charles M. and Linnie Lee Waugh Moyer.
Pete served his country honorably during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was owner/operator of the Moyer Ashland Oil/Chevron service stations from 1955 to 1995. After retirement from his business, he was custodian at Centenary United Methodist Church from 1996 until 2008. He was a member of the American Red Cross-Boyd County Chapter, the El Hasa Shrine, the Catlettsburg Elks lodge and Centenary United Methodist. He was a 32nd-degree Mason.
He was also preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
Left behind are Pete's family, his wife of 55 years, Imogene Friley Moyer; their sons, Tom Moyer and wife Susan of Proctorville, Ohio, and Mike Moyer of Ashland; three grandchildren, Erin Cole of Barboursville, W.Va., and Matthew Moyer and Rachel Moyer, both of Proctorville; a great-grandchild, Austin Michael Cole; a brother, Paul Moyer of Ashland; two sisters, Judy White and Helen Moyer, both of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister-in-law and her husband, Ron and Sadie Bishop; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Moyer will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2901 Winchester Ave., Ashland by the Rev. Troy Poff. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers will be Matthew Moyer, Greg Diamond, Ron Bishop, Shaun Duncan, Paul King and Mike Vanhoose.
