Homer Richard (1928-2008)
Homer Hill Richard, 80, of Westwood, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008.
Homer was born May 13, 1928, in West Apollo, Pa., to the late Grover Cleveland and Bessie Marie Carder Richard.
He was a retired overhead crane operator in the hot strip mill for AK Steel. He was a charter member of the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department, a member of United Steel Workers Local #1865, O.L.B.H. Vitality Center and S.O.A.R. Homer was an active member and former board member of the Westwood Wesleyan Church where he was a Jack of All Trades for both the church and the Wesleyan Campground in Maysville, Ky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Johnson Richard; a brother, Cecil Richard and a sister, Bernice Heard.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jean (Fred) Partington of Fellsmere, Fla., and Kathryn "Kaye" Elkins of Ashland; two sons, Steven H. Richard of Ashland and Scott E. (Melissa) Richard of Frankfort, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Quazar Partington, Isaac Partington, Christopher Elkins, Robin C. Howard, James R. Booth, Katie Richard, Benjamin Richard and Olivia Richard; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Partington, Gabriel Partington and Noah Partington; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" Blackard and Irma Montgomery, both of Ashland, Ky., Doris Jurina of Show Low, Ariz., and Grace Richard of Salina, Pa.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Philip Zimmerman. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
