Howard Emory Beam, 65, of Ashland died Friday, April 6, 2012, at his residence.
He was born April 30, 1946, in Paris the son of Julia Carter Beam Mitchell of Ashland and the late Howard "Jiggs" Beam.
He was retired from AK Steel Coke plant with 40 years service, a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the American Legion Post 76, a graduate of Shawnee State University, the Ashland Community and Technical College and was active with the American Little League Baseball.
He was preceded in death by his best friend Martha Greene.
In addition to his mother, he is also survived by a son, Kenneth H. Beam of Ashland; a sister, Dolores Beam Conley and husband Mike of Russell; three grandchildren, Aaron Matthew Watkins, Daniel Howard Beam and Jacob Chance Monroe Beam; a niece, Tina McClure and husband James; a nephew, Scott Conley and wife Lora; and his adorable companion Miss Kitty.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland, by the Rev. Frank Hulett and the Rev. Bill Smith. Burial will follow with military graveside rites by the Kenova American Legion Post 93 at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Crum Chapel Church or Community Hospice.
