Hugh Clayton Clevenger Jr., 74, of Catlettsburg, died Aug. 21, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born March 4, 1938, in Ashland, a son of the late Hugh Sr. and Irene Click Clevenger.
He retired from Ashland Coal Security and was a former Ashland city policeman and Boyd County deputy sheriff who served with sheriffs George Hall, Ray Slone, Ray VanHoose and Roy Rice. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith, a former member of Greenhill Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite and a member of American Legion Post 76 of Ashland.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Sue Blair Clevenger of Catlettsburg; a son, Rick Tweddell of Ashland; daughters Robin (Jim) Thacker of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, Missy (Randy) Adkins of Rush, Debbie (Brian) Beckett of Ironton, Ohio, and Renea (the late Matthew) Blevins of Catlettsburg; brothers Doug (Teresa) Clevenger and Mike (the late Faye) Clevenger, all of Catlettsburg; a sister, Joan Kistner of Cannonsburg; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday. Aug. 24, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Willard Nolen Jr. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Chaffin, Randy Adkins, Brian Beckett, Jim Thacker, Clayton (CJ) Clevenger, Tyler Bryan and Robert Stewart.
