Ira Willis Cox, 78, of 10th Street, Catlettsburg, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Cox was born July 18, 1933, on Morgan Creek, a son of the late Sheridan Sr. and Ollie Workman Cox. Ira was a laborer with Labors Local 1445 and of the Freewill Baptist faith. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by sons David Cox (Aimee) of Ashland, Ira Cox Jr. (Alane) of Catlettsburg and Frank Cox of Rush; grandchildren Tyrell Franklin Cox, Pamela Lynn Cox and Joleana Marie Cox; a great-grandchild, Kayli Tyann Cox; brothers Richard Cox (Faye) of Catlettsburg, the Rev. Burl Cox of Catlettsburg, the Rev. Paul Cox (Carolyn) of Louisa, Pete Cox (Barbara) of Ashland and Larry Cox (Anna) of Ashland; and a sister, Sue Steele (Lonnie) of Catlettsburg.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sheridan Cox Jr., and sisters Ida Hughes, Mary Cantrell, Nola Colvin and Birdie Phillips.
Funeral services for Mr. Cox will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 30, 2011, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort will be brought by Pastor James Smedley. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
