James Lee Alley 1931-2014
CATLETTSBURG - James Lee "Jim" Alley, 82, of Catlettsburg, passed peacefully into heaven on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
He was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Boyd County, to the late Charles and Virginia Boyd Alley. He was also preceded in death by brothers Roy Sr., John and Thomas Alley; a sister, Charlene Williams, great-granddaughters Larra and Rainey Nelson; and nephews Charles Alley II, Roy Alley Jr. and Mark Marushi.
He was a retired master carpenter with Ross Brothers Construction and a member of Carpenters Local 742. He was past master and member of Hampton Masonic Lodge 235 for more than 50 years and a member of El Hasa Shrine, serving on the director's staff, emeritus, Ashland Commandery 28, and Jesters. He was an avid supporter of the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital and a former member of the Catlettsburg floodwall committee. Jim was also a member of BPO Elks and the American Legion. Of all his memberships and affiliations, he was most proud of being a Christian and a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He truly loved his church and his church family.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Frances Young Alley; daughters Sherry Williams and Sue Fosson; grandchildren Kimberly (Larry) Nelson and Todd Grizzle of Madison, Wis.; great-grandchildren Tyler, Brittany and Bailey Rucker and Lainey and Tucker Nelson; sisters Lois (Bill) Marushi, Janet Roark and Dottie Spradlin; and brothers Frank Alley and William (Connie) Alley.
The funeral for Mr. Alley will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home by Pastor Jeff Ferguson. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday, with a Masonic service at noon, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Rucker, Todd Grizzle, Larry Nelson, Scott Ball Jr., Bill Guy and Bill Roberts.
