J. Bryan 'J.B.' Roberts - 1925-2009
Bryan Roberts, 83, of Ashland, husband of Jo Ann Roberts, died Friday evening, June 5, 2009, at Kings Daughters Medical Center following an extended illness. J.B. was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Elkhorn, a son of the late John and Cora Elswick Roberts. He was a retired agent with American General Life and Casualty Insurance Company and a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and an usher for many years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, include two brothers, Harry Gene Roberts and wife Betty June of Baton Rouge, La., Franklin Roberts and wife Virginia of Glencoe, Mo.; three sisters, Jackie Tucker of Georgetown, Ohio, Shirley and husband Leonard Sloas of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, and Nell Ruth Crooks of Ashland; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Herma Lee and Bill Skeens of Barboursville, W.Va., brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Madge Walters of Hamilton, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Kedrick Roberts and John Roberts Jr.; and two sisters, Vi Williams and Marie Meade.
Being a part of the 'Greatest Generation,' Bryan served in the U.S. Army Glider Infantry during World War II in Europe as an MP. Although he was small in stature, his heart was as big as Texas. He will be sorely missed by his family, neighbors and church friends.
Funeral services will be at Noon, Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Rose Hill Baptist Church by Bro. Ron Mays and Bro. Charles Stewart. Burial will be in the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rose Hill Christian School or to Gideons International.
