Kermit H. Murphy of Ashland died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center after a brief illness.
He was born April 15, 1912, in Mize, Ky., the son of the late Henry Clay and Sara Francis Murphy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Mr. Murphy was a self-employed hay and straw dealer, a Kentucky colonel and attended Brush Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Holbrook Murphy of Ashland; three sons, Gary (Sherry) Murphy of Holly Springs, N.C., Terry (Sally) Murphy of Ashland and Phillip (Diana) Murphy of Ashland; two daughters, Yvonne Harper of Ashland and Diane (Kent) Morrison of Ashland; seven grandchildren, Jeff Murphy, Julie Murphy, David Murphy, Kelley Murphy, Josh Murphy, Shelley Lock and Amy Queen; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Versai, Grant, Jana, Niyal, Chase and Reagan; and his beloved cat, Kit.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Miller Funeral Home.
A private burial service will be at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens with Pastor Frank Hackworth officiating.
