M. Paul Sammons - 1930-2008
M. Paul Sammons, 78, of Hurricane, W.Va., formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Dec. 30, 2008, in CAMC-Teays Valley Hospital.
Born April 13, 1930, in Man, W.Va., he was a son of the late John and Wilma Sammons. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Cline Sammons.
Paul was the owner/operator of the former Sammons Furniture Store in Ashland. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Scott Depot and loved gospel music, singing lead in a quartet. He served his country with the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. Sammons; his children, Paula and Joe Porter of Westwood, Ky., Trina and Rick Ferguson of Flatwoods, Ky., E.G. Morrison III of St. Albans and Michelle and Mark Fulks of Floyds Knobs, Ind.; his grandchildren, Shane Porter, Jered Ferguson, Jacob Ferguson and Ryan Fulks; his great-grandson, Logan Porter; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Iris Sammons of Man and Johnny and Pat Sammons of Los Angeles, Calif.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane by the Rev. Martin Hallett. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland, Ky.
