Mary Ruth "Roonie" Ferguson - 1926-2008
Mary Ruth "Roonie" Duvall Ferguson, 81, a lifelong resident of Ky. 168, Catlettsburg, passed away at her home amidst her family and loved ones on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008.
Roonie was born in rural Boyd County, not far from her present home, on March 20, 1926, a daughter of the late Rev. Jay and Gussie Chaffins Duvall. Her husband, Lewis M. Ferguson, preceded her in death in 2000. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, devoted and loving, and a member of Catlettsburg Freewill Baptist Church.
Mary Ruth leaves behind a daughter, Linda Rice and her husband, Cecil, of Catlettsburg; a brother, Frank Duvall of Catlettsburg; four grandchildren, Kimberly Jo Rice, Ryan David Rice and his wife, Jennifer Lynn, Shawn Christian Rice and his wife, Camille, and Devin Blake Rice; and two great-grandchildren, Dustan Brooks Dooley and Harrison Link Rice.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, James Duvall, T. Jay Duvall; and a sister, Ida Maxine Duvall.
A funeral service in honor of the life of Mary Ruth Ferguson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort and reassurance will be offered by Pastor Roger Branham. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Final rest will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Those wishing to call on the Ferguson family may do so between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
