Mary Maynard - 1921-2008
Heaven opened up and welcomed Mary Sloan Maynard of Catlettsburg as she stood before her Savior after her passing Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, from Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland.
Mrs. Maynard, 87, was the daughter of the late Alex and Hazel O'Brien Sloan, born Sept. 28, 1921, in Ashland, Ky. Her husband of 41 years, Lawrence Maynard Sr., preceded her in death.
She attended Boyd County Schools, was a very well respected housekeeper with several local families, and a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church. Mary was a loving and devoted Mother, always giving selflessly to her family.
Sadly left behind is an adoring family including two daughters, Judy (Danny) Kruger and Pam (her companion Smokey Crisp) Maynard, all of Catlettsburg; a son, Lawrence "Skipper"(Ann) Maynard of Palm Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Suzanne (Howard) Sloan Shope of Catlettsburg and Clara (Ed) Sloan Robinette of Ashland; two brothers, John Sloan of Florida and Joe (Ann) Sloan of Catlettsburg; nine grandchildren, Mary Ann Vercrouse of Ashland, Tina (John) Hughes, Penny (Jerry) Stewart, Danny Kruger Jr., Sgt. Diana Arthur (currently serving in Afghanistan 201st ANG) and her husband, Joe, all of Catlettsburg, Josh Maynard, Cody Maynard, and Esperanza Maynard, all of Palm Bay, and Teresa (Rick) West Dick of Ashland; 12 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews, and friends all to mourn her passing.
Preceding her in death are a daughter, Jeri Maynard Grimm; two sisters, Ruth Sloan Alley and Dorothy Sloan Conley; and three brothers, Frank Sloan Sr., Dan Sloan Sr., and James Sloan.
A funeral service to honor Mrs. Maynard will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at the Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Mike Blankenship will offer a message of comfort and inspiration. Final rest will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
