Maxine Barnett Charles, 84, of Catlettsburg, now rests peacefully with the Lord after passing, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mrs. Charles was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Catlettsburg, a daughter of the late Harvey Lee Sr. and Beatrice "Coonie" Johnson Barnett.
Maxine was a graduate of Thomas R. Brown High School, Ashland Junior College and Marshall University. She was a retired agent for Brammer Realty and a member of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught the Adult Ladies 4 Sunday school class for many years and was a member of the Woman's Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Rosettes and was a chaplain for the Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family, world traveling and quilting with her friends.
Surviving are Maxine's adoring husband of 31 years, Herbert F. Charles; her children, Steve Sturgill (Janice) of Catlettsburg, Gwen Minerich (Bob) of Richmond, Mike Charles (Becky) of Mooresville, N.C., and Lisa Frisby (Bill) of Peachtree City, Ga.; a brother, Harvey Lee Barnett Jr. (Jean) of Catlettsburg; grandchildren Matt Sturgill, Wes Sturgill (Kim), Ashley Renton (Dennis), Rob Minerich (Jennifer), Mike Minerich, Kristine Woody (James), Litia Frisby, Hudson Frisby, Brad Charles (Hanne) and Beth Charles; and great-grandchildren Joey, Mason, Jackson, Lincoln, Parker, Katelin, Breckin, Ethan, Evan, Lynnea, Alexa and Tayla.
Funeral services for Mrs. Charles will be at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 25, 2012, at Rose Hill Baptist Church, 1001 Winslow Road, Ashland, KY 41102. Pastor Ronnie Mays will offer words of comfort; minister of music will be Jason Johnson. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Friends may call an hour before services today at the church.
Casket bearers will be Mike Buskey, Bob Clay, Landon Daniels, Nate Hall, David Jones, John Litzenberger, John Stephens and Tom Stephens. Honorary casket bearers will be the Adult Ladies 4 Sunday school class.
