ASHLAND - Nyoka Jean Hicks, 63, of Ashland, was promoted to glory Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5, 2013, at her home.
She was born July 27, 1950, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Roy and Maude Blankenship Mullins. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Kelley.
Nyoka was a member of Mount Olivet Old Regular Baptist Church in Greenup County. She retired as deli manager from Foodfair in Flatwoods after many years of service. She was a member of the FIVCO Bowling Association, where she served on the board, and in 2012 she was inducted into the Kentucky Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
Survivors include her loving husband of 42 years, Michael G. Hicks of Ashland; sons Roy Hicks and wife, Melissa, and Tyler Hicks and wife, Jami, all of Ashland; daughter, Carrie Hicks Steele and husband, Robert, of Hurricane, W.Va..; brother, Roy Richard Mullins of Marion, Ind.; grandchildren, Joe, Austin, Taressa, Matthew, Michael, Roy Richard, Karrie and Braxynn Hicks, Toby McFeeley and Kaitlyn and Lana Steele. Additional survivors include a host of loving extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland. Entombment will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at the funeral home.
