Paul Dean Dempsey, 67, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, in UK Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
Mr. Dempsey was born Dec. 23, 1943, in Floyd County, a son of the late Moss and Nora Whitaker Dempsey.
Paul retired from Marathon Ashland Oil, where he was in the instrumentation department. He retired after 25 years as a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Ida Adams Dempsey; sons Mike Dempsey of Paris and Steve (Becky) Dempsey of Catlettsburg; brothers Lawrence Dempsey of Columbus, Ohio, Wayne Dempsey of Middleton, Ohio, and Arnold Dempsey of Warsaw, Ind.; sisters Donna Goble and Thelma Dempsey, both of Prestonsburg, and JoAnn Harshman of Vandalia, Ohio; and Paul's Little Pride and Joy, C.J., a senior Lab mix who adored her "Buddy."
He was also preceded in death by brothers Robert Dempsey and Orville Dempsey; and sisters Vesta Prater and Mayoma Williams.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Ed Caudill will offer a comforting message. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. Military rites will follow committal by American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
