Robert "Ace" Bowman - 1938-2009
Robert "Ace" Bowman, 70, of Ashland, went home Friday morning, May 8, 2009, to be with his Lord and Saviour surrounded by his family and friends. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
Mr. Bowman, a son of the late Clifford Bowman and Geraldine McGuire, was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Coal Grove, Ohio. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and a 40 year employee of the AK Steel maintenance department, where he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Rush Lodge 715 F&AM, the United Steel Workers Local 1865 and Oakland Avenue Baptist Church.
Ace was a Tomcat football player and a lifelong fan and supporter of the Tomcats. One of his greatest pleasures was watching his grandchildren as a Tomcat football player and cheerleader. It gave him great comfort to know that his family would one day join him in heaven.
Sadly left behind is an adoring family including his wife of 50 years, Sandra Clark Bowman; one beautiful daughter, Kelly (J.T.) Norris of Ashland; three brothers, Tom (Barbara) Bowman of Ironton, C. Bowman of Arizona, and Garland McGuire of Florida; three sisters, Marilyn (Dale) Rudolph and Nancy (Tom) Norris, all of Ironton and Linda Bowman of Ashland; two precious grandchildren, Clark and Jane Ann Norris.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, James Bowman; and two sisters, Jane Hill and Shelby Troyer.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by Pastor Mike Blankenship. Final rest to follow a committal at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.
Those wishing to call on the Bowman family may do so after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family has requested contributions to be made to the Oakland Avenue Baptist Church building fund or CARES Ministry, P.O. Box 1503, Ashland, KY 41101.
