Robert Carr, 84, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Saturday morning, Aug. 7, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Kayford, W.Va., to the late Orville Carr Sr. and Beatrice Kemper Carr. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Kirk Carr, in 2005.
He was the former owner and operator of Carr & Son Machine Shop in Catlettsburg and a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon. He was also a KY Colonel and an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Orville Carr Jr., Virgil Carr and Joseph Carr.
Surviving are a son, Larry Carr and wife Beverly of Ashland, Ky.; a daughter, Dreama Webb and husband Phillip of Ashland, Ky.; two brothers, Jim Carr and wife Lila of Indiana and Tom Carr and wife Pat of Michigan; two sisters, Lois Davis of Michigan and Mary Jo Walter and husband Norman of Michigan; grandchildren, Robert Carr and Bethany Carr of Ashland, Ky., Amy Shields and husband Rick of Lexington, Ky. and Brandon Webb and wife Alicia of Ashland, Ky. and Scottsdale, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Avynne Shields of Lexington, Ky., Ella Shields of Lexington, Ky., Reagan Webb of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Austin Webb of Scottsdale Ariz.; and a special niece, Doris Ann Lambert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Floyd Paris and the Rev. Harold Cathev. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at the funeral home chapel. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion Kenova Post 93.
