Robert Ray

Robert Thomas Ray, 70, of Catlettsburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Ray was born Nov. 3, 1941, in Catlettsburg, a son of the late James Tesket and Sarah Anna Stewart Ray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Ray Stewart.

Mr. Ray was a member and faithful worker of the Church of God in Raceland and drove the church bus for 15 years. He worked for a short time at Tri-State Airport as a short-order cook, at King's Daughters Hospital in the janitorial department, at the former Western Auto in Ashland and at the former Flood Furniture. He retired from Big Sandy Furniture with more than 45 years of service, working in the warehouse and as a truck driver. He also drove for R&M Delivery.

Survivors include his loving wife, Delores Jean Branham Ray of Catlettsburg; a son, Micheal Ray and his wife, Christie, of Raceland; a daughter, Shara "Jody" Ray of Catlettsburg; brothers Gene Ray of Catlettsburg, Frank (Ramona) Ray of Ceredo, W.Va., Eddie (Phyllis) Ray of Ashland and Ed (Joan) Ray of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland. Brother Earl Hazel, Brother Donald Estep, Brother Eric Phelps and Brother Eric Barnard with deliver words of comfort. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
