Tammy Burkhardt

Tammy Dawn Elkins-Burkhardt, 53, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Tammy was born Jan. 12, 1960, in Ashland, to Janice Whitt-Elkins and the late Douglas Elkins.

She was a homemaker and member of Hoods Creek Enterprise Baptist Church in Westwood. She had a passion for gardening, flowers, crochet and puzzles and was an avid UK basketball fan. Mrs. Burkhardt earned three associate degrees from the University of Kentucky and Ashland Community College.

She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Willie and Glema White-Whitt, and an aunt, Rita Whitt.

Family left behind to cherish her memory include her husband of nearly 13 years, Michael V. Burkhardt of Ashland; her mother, Janice Whitt-Elkins of Ashland; adaughter, Crystal Osborn; a brother, Danny Ray Elkins of Ashland; a sister, Joy Lynn and Stephen Brown of Louisville; three grandchildren, Angelina Maynard and Alexis and Brayden Elkins; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

A funeral to celebrate her going home will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods with words of comfort delivered by Pastor Randy Skaggs. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
