Vernon Lee Caldwell, 65, of Ashland, passed away Thursday April 29, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Caldwell was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Catlettsburg, a son of the late Lute Sr. and Ida Marie Lambert Caldwell.
Vernon was a bridge operator with the C&O Railroad and loved flowers, plants and watching UK basketball.
Survivors include his loving wife Phyllis Hill Caldwell; three sons, Dale Caldwell and his wife, Vicki, of Crown Point, Ind., Bryan Caldwell and his wife, Amanda ,of Ashland and Carl Caldwell and his wife, Patricia, also of Ashland; a daughter, Julie Jungclaus of Middleburg, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Betty) Caldwell of Ashland; and a sister, Alta K. McDowell of Ashland.
Along with Vernon's parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Billy Ray Caldwell, Lute Caldwell Jr.,, and Edgar Caldwell and a sister, Helen Shivel.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Pastor Jimmy Nichols will officiate.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg.
A memorial gathering will be at Wildwood Baptist Church following the service.
