William D. "Bill" Gauze - 1929-2008
William D. "Bill" Gauze, 79, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Ashland, Ky., the son of the late James Andrew and Mary Florence Burke Gauze. He was retired from Armco Steel as an inspection foreman, a member of Ashland Baptist Church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. Moore Gauze; a daughter, Rhonda Deskins; a grandson, Kerm Nethercutt Jr.; great-grandchildren Blake Nethercutt and Jaylynn Faith Gauze; a son-in-law, Kermit Nethercutt Sr.; a brother, Joe Gauze; and a sister, Francis McWhorter.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra (Ronnie) Abrams, Phyllis (Greg) Woods and Sandra Nethercutt and her friend, Danny Hutchinson, all of Ashland; four sons, Cecil (Nancy) Gauze, James (Debbie) Gauze and Phillip (Cindy) Gauze, all of Ashland, and William (Cela) Gauze of Barboursville, W.Va.; a sister, Gladys Clark of Ashland; a brother, Harold Gauze of Ashland; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Bill Vallance and the Rev. Chris Hammond. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Military graveside services will be by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
