ASHLAND - William Charles "Bill" Prater, 90, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility and now rests peacefully with the Lord.
He was born June 15, 1920, in Middletown, Ohio, a son of the late Tony Mackie and Nancy Susan Profitt Prater. During World War I, Bill served his country honorably as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He retired from Armco Steel after 40 years, loved to fish and was a member of Central Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Grace Carol Stump Benjamin and her husband, David, of Miami, Fla., and Linda Sue Stump Aylor and her husband, James, of Franklin, Ohio; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Levella Gilligan of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Prater of Ashland, Ky.; five nephews; and four nieces.
Bill was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Hill Prater, in 2006; a brother, Chester D. Prater; a sister, Martha Carter; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Carter.
Funeral services for William Prater will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Joed Rice will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
