William Wells (1948-2009)
William Lester "Bill" Wells Sr., 61, of Ceredo, W.Va., formerly of Westwood, husband of Mary Wells, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 14, 2009, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1948, in Boyd County, a son of the late Lester Lee and Bertha Barber Wells.
Bill was a retired contractor with the State Park System and formerly worked with the Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Kenova American Legion Post 93, a former member of Clarence Fields American Legion Post 76 and a former member of the Ashland Moose Lodge. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, James Frederick Wells and Dwight Douglas "Ike" Wells; and one stepson, Joseph S. Marcum.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Crank Wells of Ceredo; two sons, William "Billy" Wells Jr. and David Wells, both of Ceredo; three daughters, Margaret Martin and Malinda Wells, both of Ashland, and Lesley (Tot) Reeves of North Carolina; one stepchild, Jim Marcum of Kenova; one brother, Danny Wells of Westwood; five sisters, Lorraine (James) Kirk of Westwood, Linda (Bob) Ray of Raceland, Janet (Milton) Mullins of Ironton, Doris (Tony) Versey of Ashland and Rita (Eddie) Devaney of Westwood; three grandchildren, Meagan Martin, Jacob Martin and Kaiden Wells; two stepgrandchildren, Michael Marcum and Meredith Marcum of Kenova; a mother-in-law, Ruby Smith of Kenova; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by the Rev. Willie Smith. Entombment will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
